Using stories to fight stress.
During my final year as Assistant Dean of Notre Dame Law School the COVID-19 virus created unexpected challenges for health, safety, education, and students’ career plans. Our community was under stress; it was amplified because one feature that makes Notre Dame so strong – the personal interaction of students, faculty, and staff – was fundamentally disrupted.
I created “Story Time” in an effort to maintain a sense of community while we were physically distant. Everybody loves a good story; when it’s strange but true, the story is even better. The early days of Notre Dame Law are full of page turners.
I wrote a story each week or so during the final weeks of the Spring 2020 semester, and have written several since then. They are presented here as they were originally written: sometimes chatty email messages.
These stories prove once again that truth is stranger than fiction. I no longer serve as Assistant Dean but my love for the Law School runs deep. I welcome your feedback and hope you enjoy reading the stories as much as I have enjoyed writing them.
